St. Paul’s United Methodist Expanding Faith series to run Oct. 17-18
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church presents its fourth annual Expanding Faith Lecture Series, Oct. 17 and 18, “Patriotism for the Progressive Christian.”
The purpose of the lecture series is to present a prominent speaker to help church members wrestle with issues of spiritual growth and Christian action.
This year’s series will feature guest lecturer, professor Jan Love, the Montana Logging and Ballet Company and a panel discussion including Lt. Governor John Bohlinger, Sen. Christine Kaufmann, Sen. Dave Lewis and Justice Jim Nelson.
Love is the dean of Candler School of Theology and has expertise in world Christianity, world politics and conflict transformation, and is the author of two books on international relations.
Love will deliver two lectures at the event, Religion and Politics: Seeking Clarity Amid Confusion (Friday evening at 7 p.m.; and Faith, Hope and Love: Christians and Conflict (Saturday morning at 9 a.m.).
Love will also be the guest speaker at the St. Paul’s UMC worship services on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Montana Logging and Ballet Company is a renowned musical comedy group. Their unpredictable performances include songs based on contemporary news, and impromptu sketches about local events. The group is devoted to social justice expressed through satire and song.
Montana Logging and Ballet Company will perform Friday evening at 9 p.m. The lecture series will also include a silent auction.
The cost of the event is $50 for the complete lecture series, $25 for Friday evening only and $35 for Saturday only.
